InstaTIP: 3 minutes on what the correct drinking regime is

4. May 2023

1. For many years, the correct drinking regime was considered to be the intake of fluid in the largest possible amount. Now we know, however, that without any major load, heat or feeling of thirst, fluid even in the amount of 3 liters is considered too much.

2. A healthy adult person needs on average 2-2.5 liters of fluid daily. If you don't feel like plain water, have tea, fresh juice, but soup or juicy fruits and vegetables also count.

3. If you perceive symptoms of lack of fluid in the body, have a glass of water and wait a few minutes. Usually these are the following symptoms:

  • headache, fatigue, dizziness,
  • restlessness, rapid pulse,
  • dry mouth and/or eyes, cracked lips, dry skin,
  • apparent hunger.

4. Consume fluids at room temperature, even during the greatest summer heat. The body does not like cold water, it constricts blood vessels and slows down stomach activity.

5. Don't drink too much water at once. It could burden your heart, blood vessels and kidneys.
