1. Don't crave fresh fruit and vegetables in winter? Or rather in summer your stomach didn't demand anything heavy, and now this ratio suddenly changed? In heat we often prefer lighter foods, it is equally natural as fact that with season change body starts having different needs and different amount of energy. So, first of all don't panic, and allow yourself to crave heavier courses too. This physiological phenomenon is natural and has roots in organism adaptation to winter conditions.

2. Fats and carbohydrates provide quick energy and heat. And what does body need in cold weather? More energy to maintain temperature. Makes sense, right? Organism tries to maintain optimal body temperature, and therefore requires more calories to effectively produce heat. This process is called thermogenesis and can lead to increased appetite, especially richer in fats and carbohydrates providing long-term and immediate energy source.

3. Lack of sunlight can affect production of serotonin, which can change eating habits. In winter we thus crave foods providing immediate energy and satisfaction. Maybe English phrase "comfort food" rings a bell. These are foods providing not only physical nutrition, but also emotional feeling of well-being and warmth.

4. Even though all this is normal, pay attention to maintaining balance in diet and obtaining sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals from fresh foods. If you don't crave raw vegetables, try thermally processing them. Stewing, baking or cooking in soups or stews can be way how to incorporate vegetables into meals without feeling cold. Try combining fresh foods with something warm and filling. For example add fresh herbs to warm meals, or prepare meals like warm salad, combining grilled vegetables with fresh ingredients.
