1. Yes, yes, we know you know, but repetition is the mother of wisdom: there are 2 types of cholesterol:
- HDL/good cholesterol
-LDL/bad cholesterol.
HDL transports cholesterol back to the liver, where it is disposed of, thereby flushing cholesterol out of the veins. LDL travels from the liver to the peripheries, and this causes high levels of cholesterol in the arteries.
2. From the previous paragraph it logically follows that the scary diagnosis "high cholesterol" arises when too much LDL cholesterol circulates in the blood. And why is it so bad? Deposit on vessels worsens the elasticity of the vessel wall and narrows the vessels. Over time this creates a risk of circulation problems, heart attack and stroke.
3. You can lower the level of bad cholesterol (also) by the following measures:
- limit alcohol to max 1-2 dl of quality red wine daily,
- consume less red meat and fatty dairy products,
- avoid semi-finished products and fast food,
- eat less sugar, do not use palm oil.
4. You can increase the level of good cholesterol (also) like this:
- consume more fruits, vegetables and whole grain products,
- when baking and cooking use oil enriched with vitamins (e.g. A, D) and containing multiple fats, for example olive, rapeseed, sunflower oil,
- do sports and have physical movement every day.
