1. Hidden calories are those whose consumption you don't realize for various reasons, for example due to non-corresponding amount, incorrect categorization of food into diet category, absence of feeling of satiety and similarly. That is, by consuming foods and drinks with hidden calories you receive much larger amount of energy than you realize.

2. Hidden calories contribute to unhealthy nutrition also by disproportion of energy and nutrients. Very often these are foods that contain little vitamins, minerals and fiber. They lead to unconscious overeating. We could very simply summarize it into one sentence so that "you don't know real impact of consumed food on your organism".

3. Very good example of hidden calories are foods that are found in stores on shelves with healthy or fitness nutrition. Sometimes compare for example amount of calories in fitness bars and regular biscuits. Differences are surprisingly small. Also always check dairy products with label "light", for taste improvement they may contain lot of sugar.

4. Don't forget that you not only eat hidden calories, but also drink. Fruit juices, especially those carton ones commonly available in stores, are usually full of sugar. Same applies also to coffee drinks with various flavors.

5. We often underestimate portion size, and that can also be considered certain type of hidden calories. For example, it is not indifferent at all whether you spread toast with olive oil in amount of one tablespoon or pour 2 such portions directly on it. Seemingly it is very tiny difference, but in numbers it is about 120 calories.
