1. Vitamin D is often called sunshine vitamin, because it is synthesized in body when skin is exposed to sunlight. Even short stay in sun (15 to 30 minutes daily) can significantly increase vitamin D level, especially in summer months.

2. Vitamin D is key for maintaining bone health, because helps body absorb calcium. In women, especially after menopause, risk of osteoporosis increases, which is disease caused by loss of bone density. Vitamin D deficiency can accelerate this process. Sufficient vitamin D intake together with calcium helps reduce risk of fractures and maintain bone strength.

3. Vitamin D plays important role in strengthening immune system, helps body fight against infections and inflammations. Its deficiency can lead to more frequent infections, especially respiratory.

4. Vitamin D is connected not only with physical, but also with mental health. Low levels can be related to seasonal affective disorder (SAD), form of depression appearing in winter months when there is less daylight.

By the way, vitamin D has also anti-inflammatory effects, which can help alleviate inflammations and muscle damage after intense exercise or physical exertion.
